Default White Dye A Fad? Or Will Black Make A Comeback

as most of you know, black is no longer the most expensive dye since the introduction of white. will this trend last? is our beloved black dye ever going to reclaim the crown of "most expensive dye"? i guess time will tell.

what colors do u enjoy the most?

on a side note, the new white dye looks awesome on female necro 15k kurz.

I'd say white dye wil stay at a higher price as long as their drops stay so rare. I farmed for about an hour for dyes yesterday and got a black dye and a few other non-rare dyes. I still haven't got a white dye.

I think that they may eventually settle down to being equal, but considering that black dyes have been around alot longer than white it may take a while to balance out a bit. Personally I think both of them have their armour where they work well, and white should be a good mixer, whereas they've broken blacks.

White dye went up from 10k to 15k.

The prices are dropping fast, eh?

In my first two days in elona i got a total of 4 whites days so my dervish got off to a good start. I have only ever seen 2 blacks in a year and half or so. So i might fall or maybe I got lucky.

does the
silver silver silver yellow, white dye
compare to actual white dye?

cuz if so, save yourself about 10k per peice of armor.

It might all depend on people's favorite. If more and more people choose white over black then black might start to go down and vice versa.

Not even close. Silver has a very unique effect compared to other dyes. While white dye makes the whole armor lighter, and black dye makes the whole armor darker, silver makes the contrast between the light and dark areas more dramatic. It makes the armor look more metallic this way, though in many cases it comes off as cheap plastic imho.

White vs black will come down to personal taste in the end. And IMO black will win. I think most players like the effect.

And ANet is working on fixing the dye colors. Hopefully we will see an improvement in the silver soon.

the light side wins or the dark side like always in every movie and story the good guy wins, in this instance white wins over black dye, and of course brown gets left out

IMO, black dye is still more rare than white dye. On average, I've heard of more people getting recent white dye drops than black dye. Its too early to tell what the end price of white will be at but my guess is that it will be somewhere in the 2-5K region while black stays around 8-10K. I think black is still more popular than white.

I'm pretty no dye is more rare than the other, just black and white dyes are in greater demand than orange, so more people buy it at the dye trader than sell it at the dye trader.

Additionally, I've received 2 black dyes in game that I can recall, and I just hang on to them. I'm sure other people do this because they plan on getting 4-5 for their armor, so less are sold. However, lots of people will buy black dye from the trader to dye their armor immediately.

However, I'm pretty sure orange dye is more common, that one drops like crazy.

I'm positive you're wrong. Both Black and White are rare. Not sure if one is rarer than the other, but they are definately rare. It's easy to test by simply holding on to every dye you get for a couple of months. Then see how many of each color you have. I guarantee you will have more of the cheaper colors than you will of the more expensive ones.

I used to farm dye in pre a lot, and I'm sure anyone else who have also done that can tell you that there is a definate ratio of rarity in the dyes. It was something like 1 silver for every 6 regular dye (red, blue, orange, yellow, purple, green), and 1 black for every 15-20 silver, maybe more. I'm sure there's still a ratio similar to that now, but they may have increased the chances of black and now white.

Black looks good on metallic armors, some of the 'silky' outfits of eles/mesmers, as well as Sin armor. White mostly looks brilliant on cloth(monk especially), and a few of the leather sets.

And as already mentioned above, white is an excellent mixer to produce custom colors, while black currently isnt mixing that well :s

They'll settle down to around the same price eventually in my opinion.
